Iowa State University ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ student chapter was awarded for performing some of the construction industry’s best charitable work in 2019 for its fall break service trip.  As a result, the group was named an ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ in the Community Award Chapter Winner by the charitable arm of the Associated General Contractors of America, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Charities, Inc during the association’s annual convention in Las Vegas.

“These award winners have left a lasting impression in their communities and in the hearts of those they’ve helped,†said Mike Anderson, chairman of ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Charities and senior vice president at American Global LLC. â€œThey are inspiring examples of the great work and selfless acts current and future contractors perform every day in every part of the country.†

During four days of their Thanksgiving holiday break, 48 members of the Iowa State University ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Student Chapter rebuilt homes destroyed by a forest fire in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. In collaboration with the Appalachia Service Project, the team worked a total of 1,890 hours to completely dry-in a new house, frame the interior walls, build two porches, and install new drainage tile. They also built a forty-foot-long wraparound deck, installed appliances and cabinetry, and graded the yard for another house.

ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ in the Community Award winners are selected by a panel of judges representing all areas of construction.  Award entries were evaluated based on the level of commitment, the scope of the philanthropic efforts and the quality of the benefits to the community.
